Yappy New Year

Welcome to 2006....I resolve to sleep more during the day, behave in my crate when Melanie is away and be on my best behavior to get loads of treats!

Ham Bone

Today my grandma gave me a ham bone...it was SOOOO YUMMY! She even left a little meat on it for me. Anyway it was bigger than my body and I chewed on it for like 2 hours! Can I move to Amarillo forever?

Leaf me alone!

Today I helped rake up leaves in the yard. Then the monster (aka the lawnmower) came out and tried to eat me. I ran for my life and hid inside!!! I've been a little afraid ever since!

Monsters

Tonight I got scared when we went out to the backyard. There was this dark thing moving along the fence. I thought it was going to get me so I barked at it. Melanie told me to settle down, that it was just her shadow, but I'm not so sure. I'll have to keep my eyes open tomorrow night to see if it comes back.

Who's the boss?

Belle is...for sure! Today I went outside in the backyard to play...after I while I decided to come back in to see Melanie. But Belle had parked herself outside right in front of the doggie door. As I approached, she glared at me in a very intimidating manner. So I was forced to go to the "human" door and look pitiful until Melanie let me back inside!

Chasing Buddy

Today I got to play with my favorite person in the world...Caitlin! She lets me chase her all over the house at top speeds. She is pretty sneaky and sometimes she evades me, but luckily I have more energy so I always catch her when she takes a breather!

Overload

LOTS of people came to my house today....there were aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc. The best part was that Melanie couldn't watch me that closely and there were that many extra hands around to give me little tastes of turkey! I played a lot in the backyard cause it was beautiful out there...no clouds and plenty of sunshine. Then later everyone gathered to open presents...you know what that means...MORE WRAPPING PAPER!!! I had a really great time but was also REALLY tired by the end of the day.

Wrapping paper

Tonight we opened presents! I got some PB treats, doggie toothbrushes, nylabones and a ski jacket! I really enjoyed chewing on the paper that everyone kept throwing on the floor. Then I laid down under the tree for some R&R...it was nice and warm! Anyway, Melanie says tomorrow is the big day and that I am going to get loads of petting. Personally I am hoping for some table scraps 8-)

Why won't you play with me???

Belle and I continue to feud...I really want to play with her but she just ignores me! Then she jumps up on the TV....I can't figure out how she does it! I tried from the front but it is too high. Then I tried the stairs but I could fit through! I did manage to eat some of her cat food today thinking she would like me then, but NOTHING! Guess I will have to play with Melanie instead :-(

All dogs go to heaven

Today we went to the metropolis of White Deer TX. My grandpa has "work" there and I got to meet Jennifer. Then we spent a while packing things for Julie into the trucks. After that we went to Melanie's grandma and grandpa's house...what does that make it for me???? Anyway everyone there was really nice especially Uncle Jeff who sat outside with me. Then Uncle James gave me a ham bone....YUMMY! It was like heaven in a stick!

Rub a Dub Dub

Jaxson's in the tub! Today was bath day...don't ask me why! Actually I was in the kitchen sink not the tub. Anyway, Melanie got it over with quick. Then she wrapped me in a towel and let me sit on her lap until I was mostly dry. Later I got to go to "work"...it's this place that humans go every day. It seemed pretty dull to me, but whatever!

Yellow, TX

Amarillo is really cool! This house is so big and full of activity! I have to constantly run around checking everything to make sure nothing has changed! Plus I have one of those backyard things...although it has been really cold so I haven't fully enjoyed it yet. There is even this door that is just for dogs! I can go out any time I want too! The best part about Amarillo so far is that there are 5 sets of hands to pet me and 5 laps to sit on...plenty of variety. So far my least favorite thing is Belle the cat. She doesn't really like me...but I don't know why. I will keep trying to be friends with her, but luckily there is plenty of space that we don't HAVE to be in the same room together.

Hotel Heaven

Hotels are GREAT! Here I am snuggled in with Melanie who woke up sick this morning. This hotel treats dogs almost as well as humans....they even gave me my own pillow! I would definitely recommend the La Quinta off beltline to all my friends. I give it 4.5 stars!

Can I drive?

So I'm ready for the big drive home to Amarillo, home of the Big Texan, Palo Duro Canyon and grandma & grandpa's house! I hope it is as much fun as everyone says it is!

BA in Mathematics

Julie graduates today! I hear the ceremony was 3 hours, but I got to stay home and watch tv! Later everyone had Rudy's BBQ and Melanie even brought me back some...Rudy's is the BEST! She has officially taken a job in Dalhart, TX as a HS math teacher. I am sure going to miss her and I hope she comes back to visit me often. Maybe she can do a show and tell and bring me along???

I love cow!

This is my favorite toy right now...Bevo's girlfriend. She is so chewy and good! Yummy!

Tongue

Things have been a little stressful here as my roommies are taking finals, so I have made it my mission to cheer them up! Here is my best impression of a sour face! Sticking your tongue out is GREAT! Everyone should do it when they need a little pick me up.

Knock Knock Knock

Somebody knocked on our door early this morning! I was snuggled up in Melanie's bed...she tried to get me to sleep in my crate, but I would have none of it. Then this banging on the door woke me up! I was looking forward to sleeping in, but I guess not. After a quick trip outside, I thought Melanie would go back to bed, but I was wrong. Now I am sleeping at her feet on the nice soft blanket but it's no bed!

Changes

So something is going on. I'm not sure what it is yet, but something is going on. Melanie moved my stuff--food, toys, leash, crate--around. And then she went upstairs and started moving her stuff around! All this moving makes me nervous.

Austin Adventure

This weekend we went on a road trip to Austin! Melanie and Teresa wanted to hang out with their friends. Lucky for me, they had a dog to play with me. The bottom picture shows what we spent most of the day doing--playing keep away from each other! Maddie and I circled the living room like a million times at top speed! The top picture was during a time out and water break. I'm pretty tired today after all the fun, but I hope Melanie takes me back to Austin again soon.

What is...

wet, cold, solid and slippery? ICE! We had an ice storm last night...no sleet/snow that I can tell, but I've never seen it so I have to trust Melanie on that. It was REALLY cold our last trip out last night and was raining pretty hard. This morning we went out and were welcomed to 25 degrees and a complete coating of ice on everything! The grass crunched under my feet which was really weird! I kept looking behind me to see what was making that noise! After Melanie had a cup of coffee and I had breakfast, we went outside (me with a sweater on) to take some pictures and survey the damage. Right then the maintenance guys came by to see who the jeep belonged to. They needed to cut the tree down which looks pretty sad if you ask me. It was hanging down all over the car. So Melanie worked diligently for 45 minutes scrapping the car so she could move it. After I learned the procedure, I scrapped Teresa's car like all good roomies should. Now we are snuggled inside waiting for Melanie's clothes to dry back out. It looks like it will be a great day for a nap and movie session!

Brrrrrr!

I am FREEZING today! The temperature has dropped all day and it has been drizzling. It was really hard to focus on the task at hand when Melanie took me out. Then as soon as we go back in, I snuggle up next to her to warm myself back up and dry off. This afternoon I got to hang out with my rommie Teresa. Melanie doesn't know it, but Teresa is a soft touch and will do anything I want including give me extra treats! I wish she would stay home with me more often :-)

Wiggles & Wags

Today I went to the groomer. There was plenty of wiggling and wagging so I guess that's why the store is called that. The people there were really nice and gave me loads of petting. They also couldn't stop talking about how cute I was with my "smooshed face". There were also some really cute girl dogs there, mostly getting their hair done at the salon. Luckily I was looking my best and managed to get their digits. Maybe I will call them for happy hour at the park! My report card said I was "nice" (not naughty) with "excellent coat", "good ears" and "good teeth". Overall they said "I look good & I know it"...isn't that the truth! Afterwards, Melanie took me to the park to play (and get dirty). I had a great time playing chase with a basset hound named Flash!

Vet blues

So today I had to go to the vet...yuck! He looked nice but I didn't trust him one bit and I nipped at him, not foreseeing the consequences. Then I saw the error of my way when they put this funny thing on my snout! I couldn't even open my mouth then. The rest of the exam when fine, although I couldn't wait to get out of there! Good news...I don't have mange!!! Also he said I was quite trim for a pug. I guess he could tell I've been working out. He thinks I am definitely a pug mix, but the pug is so strong that he can't tell what else I am! That's good cause I just want to be a pug...nothing else!

Cats Rule and Dogs Drool

I met my first cat today...Cane. I don't think he really liked me (notice the hair and arched back!) I thought he was going to steal my toy so I had to guard it. Melanie says that there is a cat in Amarillo too. I hope she is nicer than Cane. I could really use a playmate.

Nachos

Melanie and Julie took me to Zapato's for some Nachos...okay really they were eating them and I got to stare at them while they did. I did manage to get a small taste of the cheese though! Then we went to the tent sale and the girls got some shirts. We rounded out the afternoon of fun with a trip to Petco. Melanie got me a greenie which I promptly devoured when we got home. Also I showed off my new trick of howling on command which Melanie thinks is really funny!

A walk in the woods

This afternoon Melanie and I went to Lick Creek park. It is a nature reserve where dogs can be off leash. They have tons of trails for horses, bikes and just people. I know they call it a nature walk, but I think it is more aptly named a nature smell. There were so many new smells like horses, wild animals, leaves, grasses and dirt. And there were these really big birds that were soaring high above us. We even saw a snake on the path! I can't wait to go again! Bos when you come were are definitely going there!

Santa is Evil

So I had my first "Christmas light watching" experience yesterday. It was pretty exciting and I really loved seeing all the lights. But then I spotted Santa out the window! I started to growl at him and Melanie said it was just a piece of wood painted to look like Santa. But I swear I saw him move...so I kept my eye on him until we drove on. Then later Rudolph with that silly red nose jumped out and tried to attack us, so I started growling and barking at him! Melanie and her friends thought it was hilarious, but I was really serious about protecting them!

Car Rides

I love to ride in the car! Sometimes my roomie Teresa takes me with her to get some takeout. She let's me have to run of the car and it is sooooo great. I especially like to bark at the drive thru people helping her. When I ride with Julie, I slide around quite a bit due to the luxurious leather seats. Sometimes I take refuge in her lap, but Melanie doesn't like this so we have to keep it a secret. In Melanie's car, I really like to stand up on her dashboard and look out the front window. It is just perfect for sniffing out where we are going, but sometimes I accidentally hit the "flashers" button which makes Melanie laugh. Loads of people point at me when I am riding around...the paparazzi are getting out of control!
