Progress

So you may remember my "redecorating" fetish from a few weeks ago when I spread trash all over the apartment. I have made significant progress since then in the freedom without supervision category. Melanie has stuck with the twice a week trial and I have mostly been perfect. I usually chew my Kong for a while, then nap. If I hear noise I bark or growl a little as a warning, then play with my toys to make sure the coast is clear. Then I nap again. This process repeats until Melanie arrives home. She is very impressed with my progress...maybe one day I can be free everyday!

Catch Up

Sorry I've been lagging on the posting. Don't really have a reason why I've been so absent. Basically I've been just sleeping, eating and playing...nothing major! Melanie has been super busy for the past week or two and which means I have to play EXTRA hard with her when she's available and catch up on my sleep when she is working.

So to make up time I have decided to catch you up via pictures.

Red vs Blue
Red State vs Blue State

I did have a mini adventures this past Saturday when we took a road trip down to Houston to see Ashley and her family. They have a house down there with a GREAT backyard. It was so freeing to just run with the wind blowing through my fur, prancing in the tasty grass and exploring the boundaries. The neighbor had a dog too so I paid extra attention to that fence line. I tried to communicate by tapping Morse code on the fence but I received no response....maybe he is a foreigner?!?! I knew I should have tried French!

Another Road Trip

This is to let all my loyal readers...yes all three of you...know that I am headed off on another road trip tomorrow. I will be going to Dallas to visit my friend Bruno and his humans. And Melanie says that grandma, grandpa and Katie and Julie will be there too. I am excited to see everyone again. I'll post when I get back and recount all my adventures.

Coffee and the Paper

Melanie and I celebrated the start of Spring Break by enjoying a morning at our favorite coffee shop. She had a coffee and a breakfast crepe, while I enjoyed some water and a doggie biscuit. We sat on the patio and read the paper together. Okay really I peopled watched while she read. There weren't as many people as usual cause most of the students left town. Eventually I settled for exploring the patio and tasting the nuts and berries that fell from the trees.

Lick Creek

Melanie and I went on a grand adventure to Lick Creek, a natural preserve park here in town. We set off with a camera, water bottle and lots of energy. We hiked on a main trail for a while and I met a few people. Then we took a side trail that looked much smaller but promising (and it was on the map). As we hiked along it was great to smell all these weird smells and breath in all the fresh air. At one point, a runner came up behind us and it scared me a little cause I didn't hear him approaching.

Anyway, after hiking for a REALLY LONG time we got to this place where a bridge should have been. Fearing nothing I leaped down, jumped the little bit of water, and bounced up the far bank. Melanie took it a little slower, but she made it too. That's when the trail just disappeared! But just before this Melanie had noticed that red flags were marking the trail, so she decided we should just follow those. We did this for a while, bushwhacking our own trail. We figured that the runner hadn't come back past us so he must have blazed the trail too! But then we were surrounded suddenly by a herd of cows. They were really loud and mooing and scary! Melanie freaked out (okay, in all honesty I freaked out and she rescued me calmly). So we retreated a bit but they kept following us. By this point Melanie was concerned that we were NOT on a trail and perhaps lost. I just wanted to get away from the cows! So as a brave hiker, Melanie turned us around and we went back the way we came eventually crossing over that creek/water again and following the path home.

I got really tired and started to drag behind Melanie well before we made it back to the car, but she refused to pick me up and carry me. I figure we were hiking for about 1.5 hours or so and a slow steady pace. At the entrance, Melanie checked the map again but she is still puzzled about the cows. If it weren't for them we probably would have completed the loop and earned our trail blazer badges.

Maeby

Tonight I got to go to Maeby's house for a playdate while Melanie and Doug watched the Aggie basketball game. We had a great time until it got dark and then we had to limit our chases to the area near the porch light. Luckily Melanie says that really soon it will be lighter later into the evening so that is a good thing. I'm pretty tired now....good night!

Basketball

I have become like a step child in the house....Melanie is completely ignoring me in favor of the tv and some strange sport called Basketball. She is OBSESSED! Sometimes I watch along with her but usually I just nap on the couch next to her. The good news about this new habit is that she has been staying home this week a few days to watch her teams in action, but don't tell her boss. I hear this will only last a few weeks and then she will start loving me again, but I am not holding my breath.

Very Bad Boy

March 7, 2007

I was very bad today when Melanie left me out of my crate. She thinks I am making progress since I didn't have an "accident" but is this really progress. I think she feel slightly guilty since she thought about taking the trash out before leaving but I took the brunt of her anger. Now my stomach hurts cause I ate some stuff I shouldn't have although you may notice that the salsa was not to my liking. I did manage to eat about a cup of old grated cheese, licked a take out box of enchiladas sauce left over, a few coffee grinds and probably some other stuff.

Weekend RoadTrip

Marley and MeWent on a road trip with Melanie this past weekend. We started nice and early on Friday by getting up at 6:30 and hitting the road by 7am. We did a brief stop at the coffee shop for Melanie and then we were off. I really couldn't settle down at all in anticipation of an exciting weekend. Kevin and JaxsonFirst stop, Austin and Melanie's cousins house. It was there that I met Marley, my petsitter for the day. While the humans went over to see another cousin play in the State basketball semi-finals, we dogs took care of ourselves with games of chase and wrestle. The humans checked in on us periodically between the game, lunch, etc but we were too busy to notice. After a long day of play, Melanie and I hit the road again for our next destination, San Antonio. It was there that I met Mary and Kevin, yet another cousin and her husband. I think Mary is kinda into cats, blahhhh, but Kevin was totally wrapped around my little paw. I had him out playing chase and later snuggling on the couch. Melanie was actually worried that he might sneak me into his luggage to take home with him! Finally on Sunday, Melanie and I headed back to Austin to check out my VERY FAVORITE dog park, Bull Creek.March 4, 2007 It was here that I reunited with all my doggie friends and played chase all over. My favorite escape technique was to jump the creek, which was much higher than last time and actually touched my stomach.
