I went out to play with my friend Michael today. It was really hot outside so we entertained ourselves with a water fight. Okay so it was a little one sided, but I am really fast so I was able to avoid most of it. Until the hose came out that is! But even that felt great so who can complain! This summer is just blazing hot....and Melanie says that August is going to be even worse :-(

Spa treatment for free!
Today was really hot at the park and most of my dog pals were in the water. I'm not usually a water dog but today I decided to take a wade in the shallow part. Three great things happened due to this brilliant decision. Number 1--I could get a drink anytime I wanted. Number 2--I got to splash and play with the other dogs. And Number 3--after exiting the water I rolled in a big dirt pile creating a nice mud mask for my coat. Melanie was none too pleased about this third thing, but I convinced her that being the weekend, a boy is entitled to a little fun. And when I decided later to go back into the water most of it washed off so it was a win win situation! Then we took a walk so I could dry off a little before heading home (to my dreaded arch enemy the bathtub!)

Morning Naps
I love to take my morning nap in the sun by the window. The sun warms me up and feels so good! It's too hot in the afternoon for the same routine so I prefer to take those naps on the couch.

Left at home :-(
So Melanie took a vacation without me this past week. I was sad at first until I met my pet-sitters. They were FANTASTIC! Plus they came to my house so I could still play with ALL my toys. Of course I was very excited to see Melanie again...especially when she gave me my present! It took me around 10 minutes to get a good hole in it and another 5 to pull out the insides. Ahhh sweet destruction...I love it!

A criminal
So I am feeling better today and the rash looks much better, so for now, no visit to the vet. However, Melanie said I can't go to the park until it heals up a bit so I am on house arrest. We did go for a short walk in the neighborhood yesterday, but it wasn't the same as a free-for-all romp with my friends.

Dismal De-merit
So my adventurous ways have gotten me into a bit of trouble. You see I have developed a large rash of hives on my belly. I'm not sure how long they have been there, but I have been itchy lately. Melanie suspects that I am having an allergic reaction to something I touched at the park or in the yard. That is a distinct possibility since I was working on my Wilderness Survival Merit badge this past weekend. I begged her not to take me to the vet (as if not earning my badge isn't embarrassing enough) so we made an emergency trip to the drugstore instead. After one dose of Benadryl, I am feeling much better if not a little tired. I'll keep you posted as Melanie said if it's not better when she gets home this afternoon I will have to go to the dreaded vet. Keep your paws crossed!

Late night
Melanie kept me up really late tonight! She had some paper she was revising (on a deadline) and that meant I had to start my night sleeping on the couch. Fortunately, she has just about finished up (it's almost midnight) so soon we should be moving on upstairs to the nice comfy bed. Hopefully she will let me sleep in tomorrow morning!

My twin
So yesterday I hit the park with Melanie. Being Friday there was a LOT of activity there. Lots of dogs were swimming so I thought I would try it out. I got into the creek where it feeds into the pond and watched for a while. Then I tried to take a step forward but the ground just disappeared and I took more of a dip than I intended. I got a mouth full of water and a nice cool off, but from then on I decided to stay on dry ground! Luckily my little puppy friend named Jaxson was also a non-swimmer. It's so weird that his name is Jaxson just like me. He is even the same color as me! Of course he is eventually going to be MUCH bigger than me, but for now he is my size which makes for an interesting game of chase and wrestle. We had a lot of fun running through the creek and then rolling in the dirt. By the end of the visit both our coats were covered in mud, which inevitably means a bath at home!

Still Recovering...
I am so tired! I have spend the past few days recovering from my vacation. I pretty much have slept the days and nights away with small bouts of playing. Most of my toys didn't make the trip with me so I have had to play with each of them in turn. They get lonely without me!

Frog Legs
I learned how to swim today! I got into the hot tub with the family and at first I just sat in their laps. But then I wanted to go to Melanie so I started to reach for her and then next thing I know I am floating towards her. I kicked my legs out behind me and made it into her lap! I don't really get the steering thing, but I can float so that's good. After a few swims across the tub I decided I had had enough and jumped out. Melanie said I looked funny swimming cause my legs were like a frogs instead of a doggie paddle, but for my first time I am pretty proud!

Red White and Blue
Fourth of July is AWESOME! I spent the whole day with the family celebrating. We started with a parade in Panhandle, TX. We saw floats, boats, horses, bikes and tractors! Each float threw candy to the crowd but I didn't get any. The rest of the day was spent out at the courthouse square visiting with folks and meeting and greetin'. I took a nap on the way home from there to rest up for the fireworks. We went to the park and set out the blanket. Once the show started it was Amazing! The whole sky lit up with lights of all colors. I just sat there and stared thinking about how beautiful it was. I was sad when it ended but Melanie said there is always next year. We went home and set a few of our own fireworks off, but I didn't participate. These fireworks were too loud and scared me! So long story short....Professional Fireworks are cool....Amateur ones are scary!

Yellow, TX
So I am officially on vacation in Yellow, TX....as you may know this is one of my all time favorite places to visit. There is tons of places to nap, people to pet you, treats to be eaten and a large yard for exercise. It is simply great. I've been here a week and basically just hung out. I did make one trip to panhandle for a little R&R with the fam. All was great until the sparklers came out...these things are SCARY! Melanie said that this was nothing and just wait until the rest of the fireworks come out. I am terrified as to what that means! Guess I will have to wait a few more days to find out!
