Nail Clip

Yesterday at daycare I got my nails trimmed. Melanie did not ask them to do it. I sure did not ask them to do it. When grandma visited a few weeks ago she said I needed it done but didn't ask Melanie to see to it. So how did they know I needed it done????

Confessions of a Peculiar Pug

Melanie is obsessed with college football....she hardly notices me during the fall. Most Saturdays she abandons me to drive to College Station and cheer on her Aggies. On the ones that she stays home, she ignores me all day while she channel flips. And it's not just Saturdays....she also ignores me on Thursdays and sometimes Fridays. At first I tried to share her obsession, but truthfully I just don't get it so I usually just lay down and snooze....dreaming happily of the spring and summer weekends when we used to go to the doggie park.

Home Alone

Melanie left me home alone today while she went to back to Aggieland. She didn't even leave the tv on for me....how am I to keep up with my favorite team. Should I be cheering or crying....angry at the refs or the coaches....excited about the season or getting ready for basketball?

Confessions of a Peculiar Pug

I told Melanie that I run around ALL day at doggie daycare...but the truth is I spend 4 hours running around and then pass out in the corner, while all the other dogs dodge me as they romp and play. Today, Melanie caught me sleeping when she came to pick me up. I tried to explain that I was just having an extended blink, but she didn't buy it. Does it really matter if I "try" to sleep at daycare...there is always so much activity that it isn't very restful anyway so I think I'm entitled to a quick nap whenever possible!

Power!!!!

So Melanie's work got power today and she was forced to leave me to fend for myself in the powerless apartment. She was NOT thrilled about the cold shower or lack of a/c to blow dry her hair, but I lectured her about her responsibilities and she grudgingly went to work. Meanwhile I continued my napping schedule until suddenly the lights came back on! It was so exciting that I did a little dance! Course I'm not tall enough to close the windows so the A/C could do it's work, and I couldn't call Melanie to give her the good news cause I'm not allowed to use the phone. But when she got home we celebrated together with an extra PB Kong!

Living the Powerless Life

Okay so living without power is not ideal but I rather enjoyed it with a few exceptions.

Positives
1) Kind of boring so Melanie and I took lots of naps
2) I still had my regular dog food and bottled water is GREAT!
3) Lots of Melanie time
4) Hardly any people around so I got to be leashless outside and in the hallway

Negatives
1) Hallway was REALLY REALLY dark and scary
2) Traffic noise at night since the windows are open
3) Flashlights are too bright in my eyes
4) Windows open = cold night, but cool daytime (so I guess that is a neutral)

Trip Back to H-Town

So this morning we decided to head back to H-town cause Melanie's work had power (even though the whole city was without) and she was required to go in. After loading the car, she went to start it and the car wouldn't start! So she pushed it out of the garage and called AAA to come help us. When the guy arrived he tested our battery and thought it was fine, so he jumped us and then helped us perform a science experiment to clean up the battery terminal post. So we were merrily on our way with the comfort of knowing our battery was fine and would be charged up upon arrival in Htown. Fast forward 1.5 hours to a gas station stop. 5 minutes of filling up time and then the car won't start again!!!! So we convince a nice man to loan us his running engine, while Melanie proceeded to jump us again! We then ask nice man for directions to the local autoparts store and proceed to visit it. A nice guy there re-tests our battery and claims it isn't good so we buy a new one. BTW Napa Auto Parts is AWESOME! We then continued our trip back with no other major disaters! Melanie dropped me off to play at Ashley's house in Katy since they had power while she went home to check the apartment. She found nothing except a dark hallway and a stinky fridge. After cleaning that mess up, she returned to pick me up and eat a hamburger. We then drove back into town with relative ease, except the near accident at an intersection without a working traffic signal. Melanie was in NO WAY at fault but apparently people don't understand the concept of a 4 way stop! The rest of the evening was spent by candle light napping and reading a book. I consider it an ideal way to spend the evening without the distraction of tv....Melanie disagrees!

Hurricane Ike -- Evacuee

So I wanted to update you on me and my status. Melanie and I decided to evacuate, but not really cause we were worried but because of a family funeral. So we drove to San Antonio to hook up with Aunt Clara and carpool to Amarillo with her. It was a very long trip as I-10 was packed and the 3 hour trip took 5+ hours. I was very unsettled in the car cause car rides should be taken at speed....not 10 mph. So we arrived in the wee hours safe 'n sound. At 6 am we woke up and drove to Amarillo where the weather is beautiful! We've been checking in with our friends and dogs back in H-town and we think our power is out but we don't have exact confirmation. I think it was a good idea to leave cause I HATE to pee in the rain and it was a guarantee that I would have had to today if we stayed. Plus grandma was worried about me catching the wind and flying away. Melanie claims that she would have held the leash tight and not let me go too far, but she also laughed about "flying pugs" so who knows. Our plans for return remain loose but I'll let you know when I find out....I'm always the last to know! Until then...grandma's house = spa vacation and that is a GOOD thing!

Hurricane Ike

Alright people, this hurricane is crazy...it keeps changing it's mind about where it's going. As of tonight it decided it is going to take a sharp right turn directly towards me. What is a pug to do? Should we leave town...shelter in place...eat treats...nap? So many options!

Confessions of a Peculiar Pug

I find politics really boring. Melanie has really been into the conventions the past two weeks and has watched every night. To me it's all talk and I'll wait till I see the walk. Melanie says this is a terrible strategy cause only the winner will get to "walk the talk" and when you discover if all the talk was true, or false, it's too late to participate. She says I should live by the mantra, "if you don't vote, you don't get to complain". I say, pooey on that....dogs don't even have the right to vote so why should I care. Or maybe I should organize and unite the dogs of the world to march on Washington and demand they give us the right to participate....naaahhhh....that might interrupt my napping schedule!

The ONLY good thing about Saturday Football

I get to lay in the sun, undisturbed for hours napping to my heart's content. Melanie sits on the couch cheering various teams to victory and others to defeat. It's really a win-win situation. Also she sewed up my injured toy pile so that is awesome too!

The Long Awaited Visitor

So the hurricane didn't come here...thank goodness! But I did receive some VERY SPECIAL guest this weekend. Julie, Katie, Grandma and Grandpa all came to visit me! On Saturday, Melanie dropped me off at a doggie friend's house to play all day while she and the family went to the Aggie game. She made me promise not to mention anything else about the game as we are in denial. Anyway, I had a GREAT time with Guinness and Kansas. They have a really big house to run around in and also a large backyard to relax in. We had so much fun running around playing until we passed out from exhaustion. When Melanie returned to pick me up, I pretty much went straight to bed after giving Julie lots of kisses. Then on Sunday, the rest of the family came to Houston and we spent the whole day playing! And the next day too since it was a holiday. I am so happy that they came to visit cause I can't drive and thus can't go visit them. I wonder if I'll ever get to go see them again....will Melanie ever get vacation days?
